My Podcast Era

"Flirting with Failure" is an interview-style podcast where I chat with awesome people about their journey to success through the lens of past mistakes. With the help of my friends Jason and Gabby at Anarcast Studios, I started this project during the pandemic, resulting in 13 full-length episodes, all of which are still available on Spotify and Apple.

On top of production, I also managed the podcasts' Patreon and sold merch to listeners all across the country (and one in Australia!)

This project was a true result of being locked inside for several months and very out of my comfort zone. While there were obvious downsides to the pandemic, I will always be grateful for what it forced me to accomplish and for allowing me to surprise myself creatively.

Here are a few of my favorite episodes:

Arlene Malinowski, storyteller extraordinaire and certified queen of the solo show, talks with me about growing up as a hearing child in a deaf household, a mid-life career change, and the agony of reading your first bad review.

Todd McNerney is a Professor of Theatre and the Associate Dean at the College of Charleston. He is also a director, a certified goofball, and responsible for giving some of the best and most memorable inspirational speeches and pep talks I've ever witnessed. I knew I had to get Todd on the podcast to share some of his famous infinite wisdom that anyone who has been taught or directed by him is familiar with.

In this episode, Todd shares stories of himself a young theater student, his time as a tour manager for Mummenshanz, and the journey that led him to his current position at CofC. I've never left a conversation with Todd without feeling I learned something. I'm overjoyed that he joined me for this episode and especially happy that I get to share it.

For two decades, LaVonda Wagner was living her dream as a women's basketball coach. When that dream came to a screeching halt, she turned to what many people turn to when the going gets tough: wine. But not in the way that you think.

Now a certified level two sommelier, LaVonda joined me on the pod to share her story of loss, perseverance, and redemption from the basketball courts all the way to the vineyards of Italy.
